Last night we had an extended server outage due to Amazon EC2 hiccup. EC2 is the hosting infrastructure we use, which stands for Elastic Computing Cloud, meaning we can add or remove servers dynamically based on demand. While Amazon's outage itself only lasted about 2 hours, it returned our servers into a problem state that took awhile longer to fix. Everything should be back to normal now though!

Interesting... it might be fun at some point for you to describe how you use EC2 for 8aweek. Keep up the good work!

Thanks Jake! EC2 is a very interesting offering, and works really well for services like ours that can vary widely in demand and resources from day to day. You're right, describing how we use EC2 would make a great blog post - keep on the lookout for that!

I notice you guys had a server outage today(05/20/08). You might want to consider a 'donate' button. If money helped keep this service up and responding quickly I would gladly play.

Thanks for the offer, Matthew! We think we finally got to the root of the server problems and can now remain in a manageable state. The server outages should be much less frequent now that we've stabilized things a bit more.
